The Early Modern Circle (EMC) was founded in November 2010 by Patricia Easton, Gideon Manning and Marius Stan. Envisioned as an opportunity to present unfinished work in a collegial and informal environment, the EMC meets four to six times a year to discuss works in progress from both graduate students and more established scholars residing in Southern California. While our focus is the history of philosophy of the sixteenth-, seventeenth- and eighteenth-centuries, because of the porous disciplinary boundaries in the early modern period we specifically welcome the inclusion of the history of science, mathematics, medicine and technology at the Early Modern Circle.
